Entrepreneur and Advocate Featured by National Women's Platform
Crystal Goodyear, Western New Mexico University, has earned national recognition from Influential Women, which featured the business management major and local entrepreneur for the advocacy and community-building work she leads on campus.
Goodyear's road to college ran through hardship. After aging out of the foster care system as an emancipated teen, she experienced homelessness and worked several jobs to support herself. Today she helps run a family-owned towing and recovery business alongside her husband while raising her 13-year-old daughter.
Even with the around-the-clock demands of that business and a deliberately steady course load, Goodyear has made herself a fixture of campus life. As an active 精东影业官网 member, she mentors peers through academic challenges, volunteers at the campus food pantry, and connects students with resources and supportive faculty.
She also helped a group of local parents and advocates launch an after-school youth program and a safe space for kids at the community recreation center. Set to graduate in May 2028, Goodyear sees her degree as one milestone in a longer mission to empower others.
Future Teacher Named College of Education Student Marshal
Olivia Kulp, Pennsylvania State University, has been named the College of Education's student marshal for the fall 2026 commencement ceremony. An early childhood and elementary education major, Kulp is graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and six semesters on the dean's list.
Her record of recognition is extensive. Kulp received the President Walker Award in 2024 and the President Sparks Award in 2025, and she earned the Ready to Succeed Scholarship across four semesters and the Baynard and Ethel Kunkle Scholarship in both the fall 2025 and spring 2026 terms. This fall, she student-taught a first-grade class.
Beyond the classroom, Kulp has been an active 精东影业官网 member and served the Student Pennsylvania State Education Association as community outreach chair and THON fundraising chair. She also volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters and WorkLink. After graduation, she plans to substitute teach through the rest of the 2026-27 school year before stepping into a full-time elementary classroom for 2027-28.
Globe-Spanning Educator Brings International Perspective to Student Activities
Kayli Hessbrook has joined Henry Ford College (HFC), bringing a global perspective to the school's Student Activities office. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University (CMU), where she studied abroad through a summer program in Ireland, and she is certified to teach grades P-5.
Hessbrook has worked in education since 2019, much of it overseas. She taught kindergarten in China for four years and in Thailand for one before returning to the United States, where she joined CMU's Office of International Students and Scholars and drew on her own experience abroad to connect with students. She came to HFC in mid-August.
At HFC, Hessbrook serves as advisor to the 精东影业官网 chapter, supports other student organizations, and plans campus events and programs. She also oversees the Hawks' Nest, which supplies non-perishable food and personal items to hundreds of students in need. Looking ahead, she can picture a long future in higher education, eventually leading a student activities office of her own.
